Please support SMA research and Melissa Stoudt by donating to the Run 4 Ryan fund as Melissa competes in the Rock "N" Roll Las Vegas Marathon on December 5th, 2010 in Las Vegas, Nevada.  SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy) is the #1 genetic killer of children under 2 years old.  Melissa's nephew, Ryan Cooper Bonsett, was diagnosed with this horrible disease at 4 months of age.  His parents were told that he would probably not live to the age of 1 and certainly not to the age of 2. With early intervention and regimented respiratory treatments, Ryan will soon be approaching his second birthday.  There are some very promising treatments and a possible cure for SMA in the drug development pipeline, but these programs require large amounts of money to test and to make sure that they are safe for children.  Your donation will help fund these projects and hopefully a cure will be found before it is too late. Click here to donate.

About Melissa Stoudt and why she started Runnning for Ryan:

"I started running back in January as a way to help me regain strength after a major surgery. I realized quickly that one of the keys to successful running was motivation so I signed up for a half marathon. I completed my first half marathon in April and quickly signed up for a second in June.
I decided then that if I could use my running skills to benefit my nephew Ryan in any way that I was going to do it. That's when I decided to sign up for my first full marathon, the Las Vegas marathon, and run to raise funds for the Ryan Cooper foundation. I wanted to set up a page on Ryan's site so that all the proceeds could directly benefit the SMA foundation, which is what the Ryan Cooper Foundation is all about. 100% of the sponsorship donations will go directly to the Ryan Cooper Foundation and help find a cure for Spinal Muscular Atrophy."
